Man airlifted after tractor overturns near Straiton
Published: 20th Apr 2012 17:11:46
A man has been airlifted from an overturned tractor at farmland near Straiton in South Ayrshire
The Royal Navy's search and rescue Sea King helicopter, from HMS Gannet at Prestwick, arrived at the scene at 09:23 on Thursday.
The man, who had managed to get free of the tractor, was flown to Ayr Hospital where he is in a stable condition.
It is believed the tractor slipped on mud while on a hillside and then capsized at the bottom of the slope.
Petty Officer Taff Ashman, HMS Gannet's duty paramedic, said the incident "looked quite nasty".
"Since we weren't able to determine the scale of his injuries in situ, it was vital to get him to specialist care as quickly as possible, and the helicopter was by far the most rapid way to achieve that," he added
