Ex-Swansea City chairman Malcolm Struel in hospital
Published: 26th Apr 2012 19:52:46
Former Swansea City chairman Malcolm Struel is still being treated in hospital following a road collision in February.
Health chiefs said Mr Struel was making a steady recovery, but was expected to remain at the city's Morriston Hospital for the next few weeks.
He was involved in a road collision in the Pyle area, near Bridgend.
Mr Struel was appointed Swans chairman in 1972 and appointed John Toshack as player-manger in the late 1970s.
During that period, Swansea climbed right through the Football League reaching the old First Division.
Mr Struel left in the early 1980s, after the Swans had begun to drop down the leagues.
An Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board spokeswoman confirmed he was receiving treatment at Morriston Hospital following "an accident several weeks ago".
Everyone at Swansea City Football Club wishes him a speedy recovery and we hope to see him back at the Liberty Stadium soon”
She added: "He is making a steady recovery but is expected to remain an in-patient for the next few weeks.
"He would like to thank colleagues and friends for their concern about his well-being and for their kind thoughts at this time."
A Swansea City spokesman said: "As we approach our centenary season, we still remember the part Malcolm played as chairman in the club's rapid rise through the leagues to the top of the old First Division.
"That's why everyone at Swansea City Football Club wishes him a speedy recovery and we hope to see him back at the Liberty Stadium soon.''
