Deadline extended for Goals Soccer Centres takeover bid

East Kilbride firm Goals Soccer Centres has won more time to allow a takeover bid from a Canadian pension fund.

Earlier this month, Goals confirmed it had received an approach from the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan.

Under the financial regulator's takeover code, a deadline of 30 April was set for the pension scheme to either submit a firm bid or confirm that it had pulled out.

However, the deadline has now been extended by two weeks.

The pension fund owns Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which houses a number of Canadian sports teams.

Goals currently has 42 centres in the UK and one in Los Angeles.

In February, the company reported a 21% rise in pre-tax profits to £9.2m, despite being hit by a tax ruling that cost it £800,000.
