Man jailed for murdering Ian Sudworth at Wigan petrol station
Published: 30th Apr 2012 19:06:04
A man has been jailed for life for stabbing another man to death at a Wigan petrol station.
Jonathan Marron, 21, will serve a minimum of 18 years for the attack, which took place in Marsh Green shortly after 03:40 GMT on 18 November 2011.
He pleaded guilty to murdering Ian Sudworth with a kitchen knife after punching the victim's girlfriend in the face, causing facial injuries.
Mr Sudworth, 24, from Beech Hill died in hospital from his injuries.
Greater Manchester Police said Mr Sudworth and his girlfriend were at an address on Kitt Green, when they left to buy cigarettes.
At the same time, Jonathan Marron, of Sillitoe Drive, Wigan, left a party and also headed to the petrol station.
After an argument, Marron punched Mr Sudworth's girlfriend with such force it pushed her teeth back.
Mr Sudworth was then stabbed several times during a fight between the two men.
Senior Investigating Officer Andy Tattersall, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "Marron went out with the intention of intimidating all who crossed his path.
"This was a callous attack on a young man trying to do the right thing.
"The injuries Marron inflicted on Mr Sudworth cost him his life and left a family devastated."
