The trial has been adjourned of a 14-year-old boy who is accused of murdering a foster mother in Hamilton.

The schoolboy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was due to stand trial at the High Court in Paisley.

He is accused of murdering former nursery worker Dawn McKenzie by striking her on the head and body with a knife on 24 June 2011.

The attack is alleged to have taken place at a house in Hamilton's Deveron Crescent.

Advocate depute Andrew Stewart QC made a motion to adjourn the trial diet in order to get another psychiatric report on the accused.

This was not opposed by defence counsel Louise Arrol and a new trial diet was set for the High Court in Glasgow in July.

Judge John Beckett QC said he was "prepared to grant the motion" even though the adjournment will cause some delay.
