A man who was caught transporting £80,000 worth of cocaine in his car has been jailed for 40 months.

George McKenzie, 27, was arrested after police stopped his car in Edinburgh Road, near Glasgow's Easterhouse area, in August 2011.

Detectives, acting on a tip-off, found two kilos of the class A narcotic in the rear of his silver Ford Focus.

McKenzie was jailed at the High Court in Edinburgh after admitting being concerned in the supply of drugs.

He pleaded guilty following an earlier hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

The court heard that father-of-two McKenzie, from Easterhouse, was handed the drugs by another man close to the spot where police arrested him.

McKenzie, who has a previous conviction for a motoring offence, told officers that he did not know the man's identity.

Passing sentence, judge Lord Bannatyne said he had no other option but to impose a custodial sentence.
