Police have released the name of a man who died after being deliberately knocked down in North Lanarkshire.

Frank Baxter was hit by a pick-up van, which was driven at him and a 31-year-old friend in Crindledyke Crescent, Newmains, at about 22:50 on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old later died in Wishaw General Hospital. His death is being treated as murder.

His friend was treated for leg injuries at Monklands Hospital. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

The vehicle involved in the incident also crashed into a house, causing damage to brick work. No-one was injured.

Officers believe the man driving the van made off after setting it on fire.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
