Elgin gas leak: Weather delays gas leak operation at Total platform in North Sea
Published: 14th May 2012 16:56:51
The operation to stop gas leaking from the Elgin platform in the North Sea is being delayed by weather.
Total's platform was evacuated when the gas began leaking on 25 March.
Total said preparations were now complete and the main drilling support vessel, West Phoenix, was in position alongside the platform.
Total said it was now waiting for "an appropriate weather window" to start pumping heavy mud into the well to plug the release.
