Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen has topped the UK's first weekly chart to be based on music streamed via on-demand services such as Spotify.

The countdown has been compiled by the Official Charts Company to take into account new ways of music consumption.

Jepsen's hit Call Me Maybe came ahead of We Are Young by US group Fun, according to statistics from audio streaming services.

But video streaming services like YouTube are not reflected in the chart.

Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye is ranked third in the inaugural weekly chart, just ahead of Too Close by Alex Clare and Starships by Nicki Minaj.

Last week, the Official Charts Company (OCC) said Ed Sheeran was the most-streamed artist in the UK so far this year.

Martin Talbot, managing director of the OCC, said the chart launch was "a landmark moment for the UK music industry".
