A south London football club claims it has broken the world record for "most players in a five-a-side match".

Petts Wood Football Club (PWFC) said 669 players took part in the match in Bromley between their club and South London Nomads.

The 27-hour game, in aid of PWFC player Harry King who has leukaemia, began at 09:00 BST on Saturday.

Guinness World of Records have to verify the record, which stands at 441 players in a five-a-side game.

Jo Johnson, MP for Orpington, and ex-Charlton and Chelsea player Scott Minto took part in the event.

Harry, who has been playing with the club since the age of seven, became unwell during a training session and will have to undergo treatment for 3 years.

Andy Graves, chairman of PWFC, said: "All of us were devastated to learn about this young lad's illness and the club felt it was very important to show our support and love for him and his family.

"This is what football at any level does best - it unites and that is what the 'Feels Like Team Spirit' campaign is about, as well as raising vital funds for medical treatment."

The club said it has sent a video recording of the event, which continued through the night, to the Guinness World Records.
