UBC Group's Wyvis Roofing subsidiary sold to former managers
Published: 22nd May 2012 12:55:08
A subsidiary of collapsed construction company UBC has been sold to its former managers.
Administrators Zolfo Cooper said the move had saved 30 jobs at Inverness-based Wyvis Roofing.
Almost 240 people were made redundant in the Highlands and Islands and the central belt after the UBC Group became insolvent earlier this month.
About 100 jobs were lost in Inverness, 90 in the Western Isles, 45 in Bathgate and five in Glasgow.
Elizabeth Mackay, joint administrator and lead partner for Zolfo Cooper in Scotland, said the sale of Wyvis Roofing to its management was good news.
She added: "We would like to express our gratitude for the assistance provided by both Fergus Ewing MSP and Highland Council, whose interventions were instrumental in allowing the business to continue as a going concern.
"This case has been an excellent example of local and national government working alongside both the management team and that of the administrators to achieve a positive outcome."
Willie Sharp, managing director of Wyvis Roofing, added: "We are of course delighted that Wyvis Roofing can continue with business as usual and the entire team are now all 100% focussed on taking the business forward as a standalone entity."
