Murder victim Darren Gavan killed in 'brutal attack' in Castlemilk
Published: 25th May 2012 11:28:45
A man who died after being stabbed in the Castlemilk area of Glasgow suffered a "brutal attack", police have said.
Darren Gavan, 25, was attacked by a group of men and woman in Tormusk Road at 23:45 on Wednesday. The father-of-two died before reaching hospital.
Police said the public response to the murder inquiry had been "encouraging".
However, Det Insp Joe McKerns, of Strathclyde Police, said some people with information about the killing had not yet come forward.
Mr Gavan was fatally stabbed after an altercation took place with the group of men and women. He was taken to the Victoria Infirmary but was dead on arrival.
A friend he had been with at the time was not injured.
Det Insp McKerns said: "So far, the public response has been encouraging and I am pleased with the co-operation of the local community.
"However, I know that there will be people who have information about this murder and have not yet come forward.
"This was a brutal attack on a man who had a young family and it is vital that we trace those responsible."
Det Insp McKerns said extra police patrols would be carried out in the Castlemilk area and urged anyone with concerns to speak to officers.
