The case has been deserted against three people accused of breaking into a home in the Scottish Borders and assaulting a man with an axe.

Nicole Dodds, 19, George Winkley, 42, and Thomas Kennedy, 48, all of Galashiels, denied the charges.

They were accused of breaking into a house in the town's St Andrew's Street last year and carrying out the assault.

However, on the fourth day of a jury trial at Selkirk Sheriff Court the Crown deserted the case against them.

They had also denied a charge of striking a woman with a hammer to the danger of her life.

Ms Dodds further denied possession of a hammer and Mr Kennedy possession of an axe.

All the charges against them have now been dropped.
