Greyhound breeder Cameron guilty of producing cannabis

A greyhound breeder has been found guilty of growing cannabis at his remote West Lothian farm.

Alexander Cameron was remanded in custody after Judge Rita Rae QC called for background reports.

The jury at the High Court in Edinburgh heard how police who took part in last year's raid could smell the plants from 25ft away.

Cameron, 62, claimed he knew nothing about what was going on at his West Cairns Farm, in Kirknewton.

However, the court rejected his version of events and found him guilty of producing cannabis between February and July last year.

The jury also found him guilty of being concerned in the supply of the drug and of stealing electricity.

The police raid on 23 July, 2009, found cuttings and mature plants which might have yielded a crop worth £78,000 on the streets.

And the complex heating and lighting used to grow the cannabis was being fuelled by electricity being tapped, illegally, from a nearby transformer.

Cameron said he was unaware of what was happening in the building because it was being rented out.
